The Advent Conspiracy

It's that time of the year again. Christmas decorations are up in the stores. My ever-ahead sister has already posted her Christmas wish list and is pleading for the rest of us to follow suit. That means it's time once again to join the Advent Conspiracy.

Advent Conspiracy is an international movement restoring the scandal of Christmas by worshipping Jesus through compassion, not consumption.

Our church, Imago Dei, is the hub of the Conspiracy here in Portland. One of the goals is to encourage people to engage in relationships and gifts of time with each other instead of engaging in mass consumerism.

Today was the annual DIY Craft show. This is an odd sort of craft show. You can't buy anything at it. You can collect lots of ideas for gifts you can make, you can sample food gifts, and you can even make a few gifts there on the spot.

I helped put together one table at the craft show. Here's a picture of my half of the table. I was incredibly fortunate to share the table with the ridiculously-talented Rachel Austin, one of my favorite Portland artists. It was so much fun getting to know her and see her at work. It was also fun to meet other crafty women and they were all very encouraging of my little projects. I am so inspired to make even more gifts this year.

Won't you join the Advent Conspiracy?

Dang- I forgot to take photos of my own DIY table on Saturday. I did the table with the hairclips. We met this morning at church-thanks for emailing me.
