Women (or men, I suppose) who happen upon this blog, what's your idea of the perfect bag/purse?
I'm trying to design and build my own handbag. I keep seeing fabulous bags out there in the internets and thinking "I could make that". And so now I'm trying to actually do so.
My objective is to have a bag that is large enough to tote around a few books, a sketch pad, etc. yet small enough to not be too bulky. I want it to be comfortable enough to carry around on my shoulder for several hours while running errands.
Here was the first attempt. I wanted it to look sort of minimalist and linen-y but I was too cheap to buy real linen. Then it ended up looking like any other canvas tote. It IS super comfy to carry around and just about the right size. I think I like the double drawstring closure ok. It has this beautiful lining but you can't really see it, so I wish I could figure out a way to make it reversible.
Version 2.0 coming soon.

Wow! I'm very impressed by your patience with sewing of late. I like the bag, though you're right, I wouldn't know it wasn't canvas.
Hey, maybe when you get it perfected, you can share your "pattern" with those of us who greatly benefit from instructions when it comes to sewing. I attempted stockings for Pete and I several years back without any pattern. They actually turned out decent... we still hang them. But they could be greatly improved. I'm quite impressed with your work, by the way.
Thanks, guys. Kris, if you're serious about wanting a pattern, let me know. I could probably put together some sort of tutorial/pattern.
