This month's challenge for the Crafty Women was to make a project from Amy Karol's Bend the Rules Sewing book. I have a bunch of baby gifts to get together in the next couple of months so I decided to try out the scalloped baby blanket. Plus it gave me a chance to experiment with machine quilting. I love the fabrics I used-- one's a Joel Dewberry and I think the other one is from Amy Butler (nothing like hitting on all of your favorites in one project). And I think it would work for either a boy or a girl. I had a little problem with cutting in at the scallops and had a few loose threads come out through the scallop points....I think if I use a shorter stitch next time around that should fix the problem.
And I do think I'll make a couple more. They went together very quickly. I'm not entirely happy with machine quilting....too puckery. I might have to quilt the old-fashioned way (by hand) in the new-fashioned way (while watching television).

Wow, Deb! It's gorgeous! I've been toying with the idea of buying a copy of "Bend the Rules Sewing". Maybe when I get a job and can more easily justify a purchase that will only induce me to spend more money.
The quilt is a real beauty. Definitely post photos of others...when the follow.
SEW cute!! I think I might need a lap blanket like this. I just love the scallops.
I love it too, though I'm not sure how practical the pretty scallops are. :)
you're right--shorter stitches work better on curves. It looks like you got your scallops sewn very well, though. I love the blanket! And what a great idea to meet with a bunch of other crafty women! I have to say I'm a little jealous.
i love it! you just keep edging me closer and closer to the sewing machine...
