Post-Christmas Post #2: Screen-Printed Dishtowels

My biggest hand-made project this Christmas was a series of screen-printed dishtowels. I was inspired by the work of Sally Shim and Elizabeth Bentz, and motivated by the Crafty Women. We had a screen-printing day over Thanksgiving break and I printed about 15 dishtowels. Some were plain white pre-made towels, but my favorite were the ones I printed onto a natural cotton-linen blend and cut out and hemmed myself. I imagine that they could last a life-time.

The leaves are Ash. The droplets are rain or coffee or...whatever you imagine...but they symbolize Portland for me.

The dishtowels in my kitchen are atrocious. I even have some linen blend in the studio. I can see potato painting with the girls as a fun winter activity. I guess I never thought of making my own dish towels...at least not with linen!

Yes, but HOW? How did you get that sharp image from the glass to the towel? What ink did you use that won't just rub off on your dishes? Those are FABULOUS. I love it!

Am I seeing a nice little tutorial in the future for those of us drooling over these....maybe?? :)

Those turned out really nice. I will have to send you a picture of how my freezer paper stencil turned out on the journal for my sister in law. It's the one I was working on the day that you did your screenprints.

Thanks for the kind comments! I am probably NOT the person to write a screenprinting tutorial since I'm still learning myself but I could probably put some photos of the process up sometime in January for Wendy and Emily.

Stephanie, I'd love to see how your prints turned out!
